Women Freemasons

WomenThe life philosophy offered by Grand Orient Freemasonry is meets the needs of modern western culture. It's an adaptive and evolving system that stresses the potential of the individual to have a positive impact on the lives of those around them. Perhaps this is why it's so popular with women.

In a series of short interviews with women Freemasons we sought to better understand why they chose the Grand Orient USA over European alternatives. Here's what they had to say:

  • "I felt at ease to be myself. No one was telling me how I ought to be. I was free to just be me."

  • "People in the organization cared about my opinion. They listened to me."

  • "I was finally in an organization with other Americans."

  • "It was the only Masonic organization that supported charitable causes that were important to me."

  • "I felt a real bond between myself and my brothers and sisters. It was the first time I ever experienced this."

  • "It was the first, as a woman, that I had a voice in how things should be."

Beginning in 2012 the Grand Orient and Halcyon Charities will begin holding WooHoo benefits in support of breast cancer research. This, and changes to the education programs, are a direct result of women making a difference.

It's this openness to change and new ideas that sets the Grand Orient USA apart from other Masonic groups. Each individual is a respected part of the organization that makes valuable contributions to its internal culture and philosophy.

Women represent roughly 50% of all human beings. They have been excluded from mainstream Freemasonry for almost three hundred years. Today, it is clear, they are the future of Freemasonry.
